Haiku by Svetlana Marisova

the choices

not so clear now ...

twilight

lonely vigil ...

colour draining away

with her

gray morning ...

fog digesting

the sun

before dawn -

stretching into silence

with words

autumn dusk ...

an angel of light

casts a shadow

red poppies -

the stain of innocence

remains

final vows -

putting all my eggs

in one basket

the tiger

eyes its stripes -

harvest moon

dewdrops ignite

for the rising sun ...

morning mist

final act -

facing the death scene

without a script

distant echoes ...

I learn the lines

of loss

star-crossed lovers ...

they entangle

their lines

candlelight

strutting in a dewdrop

centre-stage

the sun

still entombed ...

morning dew

dewdrops

hidden from view -

morning rain

this thirst

longing to be slaked -

warm beer

empty cross -

love splintering

on the earth

stillness -

the apple decaying

on the tree

Good Friday -

the transformation

still to come

autumn night

unfolding before my eyes

from nothing

my image

two inches behind

your eyes

last supper -

the pledge of love

in this cup

holy week -

the wall still wailing

in prayer

whispers of words

written on subway walls -

sound of silence

distant sounds

splashing within

each word

overnight rain -

even our differences

wash away

goosebumps -

the caress of the unknown

in his breath

rustling leaves ...

the infinite silence

in these words

stillness ...

the coolness of air

on my skin

waxing moon ...

the longing that

cycles back

the big bang's

ejaculation of stars -

moonless night

the still point

of a still turning world ...

Easter dance

the twinkle

in his parent's eyes ...

birthday candles

spring renewal -

expanding its horizons,

a hermit crab

autumn burial ...

the ripening of seed sown

in darkness

full moon ...

Taranaki's hidden glow

awakening

autistic child -

the coffin she renames

a boat

waning moon

also awake

beyond dawn

ahh rainbow!

the light passing

 through me

rush hour ...

a crow picks the universe

from roadkill eyes

new moon ...

yearning for the light

that consumes her

summer dreams ...

the night thick with

datura

spring fever ...

she forgets to wear

underwear

thunder ...

still this birth

resonates

summer sweetness -

half a worm wriggles

at the core

distant thunder -

winter silence --

music attains perfection

within

wintry blast

parting breath from the breather

with a gun

bitter morning -

in the hawk's talons

a rabbit's shriek

summer night -

moths ride the vortex

above a candle

neglected no longer

the cactus drives home

its point

summer surf -

within its sound

I am sea

Christmas ...

all that he is

he gives

end of year

so many leaves

still to turn

thistledown -

my thoughts come to rest

on a wooden cross

summer hangi -

the heat of ancestral rocks

cooks our kai

new year -

still the tides sculpt

ancient rock

lunar eclipse --

his mother out of sight

for a moment

lingering mists

part for a driven wedge —

geese in formation
